Update: Amendment to the Finnish Alcohol Act progresses in Parliament

Read our latest news

The proposed amendment to the Finnish Alcohol Act, which covers issues such as alcohol distance selling, delivery and marketing, is currently advancing through parliamentary committee proceedings in the Parliament of Finland.

At this stage, the Social Affairs and Health Committee has requested a formal opinion from the Constitutional Law Committee. The Constitutional Law Committee will assess whether the proposed legislation complies with the Finnish Constitution.

Once the Constitutional Law Committee has issued its opinion, the Social Affairs and Health Committee will finalise its own report and submit it to Parliament. Following this, the bill will proceed to plenary debate, where Parliament will decide on the adoption of the amended law.

Estimated timeline for adoption

Based on the typical parliamentary process and current committee schedules, it is reasonable to expect that Parliament may decide on the amendment during 2026, most likely in spring or early summer 2026, assuming the committee process proceeds without significant delays.

DrinkData continues to monitor the legislative process closely and will provide updates as soon as the committee opinions and parliamentary decisions are published.
