This page explains how DrinkData works for EU/ETA-based alcohol producers and retailers operating, or preparing to operate, compliant distance selling within the European Union. We offer market information and guidance to merchants interested in starting distance selling in Finland.

It defines participation options, boundaries, and presentation principles.

DrinkData is:

  • A market information and product visibility platform

  • A structured reference point for alcohol distance-selling markets

  • A referral-based traffic source for participating merchants

  • A source of up-to-date comparison price data

  • A platform governed by rule-based presentation principles

DrinkData is not:

  • An alcohol retailer or marketplace
  • A reseller, distributor, or logistics providers
  • A payment processor or merchant of record
  • A marketing or advertising platform
  • A legal or tax advisory service

  • DrinkData does not sell alcohol, process orders, handle payments, or represent merchants in commercial or regulatory matters.

Who can participate

DrinkData works with EU/ETA-based alcohol producers and retailers that:

  • operate under EU distance-selling rules

  • comply with applicable Finnish regulatory and tax requirements

  • sell alcohol directly to consumers

  • provide verifiable company and product information

Participation is subject to eligibility verification.

Merchant participation models

Merchants may choose between different participation levels depending on their needs.

Informational listing (no agreement)

  • Merchant and product information may be displayed for informational purposes

  • No direct links to the merchant’s web store are provided

  • No referral traffic is generated

  • No fees are charged

This option supports market transparency without commercial engagement.

Level 1 — Referral participation

Merchants may enter into a commercial agreement with DrinkData to enable direct product linking and referral-based customer traffic.

This includes:

  • Direct links from product listings to the merchant’s web store

  • Referral tracking for purchases originating from DrinkData

  • Ongoing product and pricing visibility

  • Access with contracted influencers

Commercial terms:

  • A fixed monthly platform fee

  • A performance-based commission calculated as a percentage of the net sale value (excluding taxes and delivery costs) for completed purchases referred via DrinkData

Level 2 — Data usage & comparison services

Merchants who wish to use DrinkData price and product data within their own digital channels (e.g. for comparison or market reference purposes) may enter into an additional agreement.

This includes:

  • Licensed access to selected DrinkData datasets

  • Use of comparative price and product information on the merchant’s own platform

  • Volume-based data usage terms

Commercial terms:

  • An additional fixed monthly fee

  • A usage-based fee depending on data volume and scope

Referral partners

DrinkData may cooperate with selected referral partners that generate qualified traffic to the platform.

A portion of DrinkData’s referral commission may be shared with referral partners based on volume and performance. Referral partner arrangements do not affect product presentation, ranking, or visibility logic on the DrinkData platform.

Presentation and visibility principles

DrinkData applies the same presentation rules to all merchants:

  • Products are displayed based on structured data attributes

  • No paid prioritisation, promotional ranking, or advertising placement

  • Commercial participation does not influence comparison logic

  • Participating and non-participating merchants are clearly distinguished

  • Visibility follows predefined data and compliance criteria

The platform focuses on how information is presented, not on influencing purchasing decisions.

Merchant responsibilities

Merchants remain fully responsible for:

  • regulatory compliance

  • tax registration and reporting

  • age verification and delivery requirements

  • pricing accuracy and product availability

  • consumer rights and obligations
