DrinkData datasets

This page describes the scope, structure, and limitations of the data presented on the DrinkData platform.

DrinkData aggregates and structures publicly available information on alcoholic beverages offered through legally compliant distance-selling merchants within the European Union. The platform presents market data for informational and comparative purposes only.

Scope of the data

The DrinkData datasets focus on products that are:

  • publicly listed by EU-based distance-selling merchants

  • legally available for cross-border sale under applicable regulations

  • visible at the time of data collection

Information on the alcohol offerings of Finnish Alko Oy and large grocery stores has also been included. The platform reflects market availability as presented by merchants and does not guarantee product permanence, stock continuity, or pricing stability.

Data categories

Each product entry may include the following attributes, where available:

  • Product category (e.g. wine, beer, spirits)

  • Alcohol by volume (ABV)

  • Bottle or package size

  • Country of origin

  • Listed retail price

  • Merchant identifier

  • Availability status

  • Estimated delivery time for purchase

  • Descriptive product information provided by the merchant

The availability and completeness of attributes depend on merchant disclosure.

Data structure and comparability

To support comparison across merchants, DrinkData applies a consistent data structure:

  • Product attributes are standardised where possible

  • Units and measurements are normalised for comparison

  • Products are grouped by category and key characteristics

  • No ranking is applied based on popularity, sales volume, or commercial agreements

Commercial participation does not influence how data is structured or displayed.

Use of the data

The DrinkData datasets support informational and analytical use cases, including:

  • Comparing prices across compliant sellers

  • Observing product range and availability by category

  • Monitoring market developments following regulatory change

  • Supporting research, reporting, and factual reference

DrinkData does not provide recommendations, endorsements, or purchasing advice.

Merchant participation and data visibility

Merchants may choose to participate in a commercial agreement with DrinkData to enable direct product linking and referral-based traffic.

Merchants that do not participate commercially may still be listed on the platform for informational purposes. In such cases, product entries may be displayed without direct links to the merchant’s web store.

Participation status does not affect product data structure or comparability.

Data sources

Data is sourced from:

  • publicly accessible merchant product listings

  • verifiable product descriptions

  • other publicly available reference sources

DrinkData does not modify merchant pricing or product descriptions beyond formatting and structuring for consistency.

Updates and accuracy

  • Data updates are performed periodically

  • Update frequency may vary by merchant and product category

  • Temporary discrepancies may occur due to merchant-side changes

DrinkData does not guarantee real-time accuracy or completeness.

Limitations

The DrinkData datasets are subject to the following limitations:

  • Not all merchants disclose the same level of detail

  • Prices and availability may change without notice

  • Product information reflects merchant-provided data

  • Regulatory interpretation remains the responsibility of merchants

The platform reflects market information, not contractual terms

Data neutrality

DrinkData applies rule-based presentation principles.
Commercial relationships do not influence data structure, comparison logic, or visibility criteria.
